At Sarvesh Health City, we are proud to share a remarkable achievement in advanced critical care — the successful ECMO therapy for a 40-year-old male patient suffering from Celphos poisoning. This milestone marks the first successful ECMO case in Hisar, setting a new benchmark for critical care in the region.
The patient was brought to our hospital in severe condition, presenting in cardiogenic shock with an LVEF (Left Ventricular Ejection Fraction) of only 15%. After a thorough multi-disciplinary team consultation, VA-ECMO (Veno-Arterial Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation) was initiated to support his failing heart and lungs.
During the course of treatment, the patient developed severe acidosis, which was managed successfully with CRRT (Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy) for four days. With dedicated monitoring and comprehensive care, the patient’s condition steadily improved — his acidosis resolved, his ejection fraction increased from 15% to over 35%, and he maintained stable haemodynamics with good urine output. Notably, he was off inotropes by the third day of treatment.
On the fifth day, the ECMO was safely removed in the CTVS OT (Cardio-Thoracic and Vascular Surgery Operation Theatre), and the patient was extubated the following day. Follow-up echocardiography showed a remarkable recovery, with the patient’s ejection fraction improving to a healthy 60%.
Our dedicated ECMO team at Sarvesh Health City includes expert cardiac surgeons, cardiac anaesthesiologists, intensivists, physicians, and specialists from allied departments like cardiology and nephrology, ensuring a comprehensive, multi-disciplinary approach to complex cases.
Today, the patient is stable, ambulatory, taking oral feeds, and has been discharged in good health — a testament to the commitment, expertise, and advanced infrastructure available at Sarvesh Health City.
This successful ECMO case reaffirms our mission to deliver advanced, life-saving treatments in Hisar and beyond.
