- Blood cultures are done with the BACT/ALERT automated system for aerobic and anaerobic bacteria, fungi and mycobacteria which indicates positivity from 3 hours onward. Identification and antibiotic sensitivity of organisms grown from blood culture can be reported very early through an automated system, which helps in the initiation of early specific antimicrobial therapy in life-threatening infections.
- Conventional cultures of bacteria and fungus from clinical specimens other than blood are carried out on appropriate culture media. Identification and antibiotic sensitivity of bacteria are made with VITEK 2 Compact automated systems.
